  • - 1 pound ground beef

  • - 1 onion, chopped

  • - 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • - 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

  • - 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste

  • - 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

  • - 2 teaspoons dried basil

  • - 1 teaspoon salt

  • - 1 teaspoon sugar

  • - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • - 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • - 9 lasagna noodles

  • - 15 oz ricotta cheese

  • - 1 egg

  • - 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • - 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese


1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until meat is browned and onion is tender. Drain any excess fat.

2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, basil, salt, sugar, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

4. In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and rinse with cold water.

5. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.

6. To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange three lasagna noodles on top of the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers, ending with a layer of meat sauce and remaining mozzarella cheese on top.

7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

8. Let lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving.
