- 1/2 tsp nutmeg

- 1/4 cup flour, for dredging

For the sauce:

- 4 cups beef broth

- 1/2 cup heavy cream

- 1/4 cup butter

- 1/4 cup flour

- 1/4 cup capers

- 1/4 cup lemon juice

- Salt and pepper to taste


1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, eggs, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Mix until well combined.

2. Shape the meat mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Dredge each meatball in flour to coat.

3. In a large skillet, heat some oil over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, working in batches if necessary. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

4. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to create a roux, cooking for about 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

5. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.

6. Stir in the heavy cream, capers, and lemon juice. Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.

7. Return the meatballs to the skillet, coating them in the sauce. Simmer the meatballs in the sauce for an additional 10-15 minutes, until they are cooked through and the flavors have melded.

8. Serve the Königsberger Klopse hot, garnished with additional capers and a sprinkle of fresh parsley. This dish pairs well with boiled potatoes or egg noodles.
