Baklava Recipe

Baklava is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert made with layers of phyllo dough, nuts, and sweet syrup. This delicious treat is perfect for special occasions and is sure to impress your guests. Follow this detailed recipe to create a batch of homemade baklava that will have everyone asking for seconds.

Ingredients:

  1. - 1 package of phyllo dough (16 oz), thawed

  2. - 1 1/2 cups of chopped nuts (such as walnuts, pistachios, or almonds)

  3. - 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted

  4. - 1 cup of sugar

  5. - 1 cup of water

  6. - 1/2 cup of honey

  7. - 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

  8. - 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract



Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.


2. In a medium bowl, mix together the chopped nuts with the cinnamon and set aside.



3. Unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp towel to keep it from drying out.


4. Place one sheet of phyllo dough in the bottom of the prepared baking dish and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this process, layering 7-8 sheets of phyllo dough and buttering each sheet.



5. Sprinkle a generous amount of the nut mixture over the phyllo dough.


6. Continue layering the phyllo dough and nuts, brushing each sheet with butter, until all of the nuts are used up.



7. Top the baklava with a final layer of phyllo dough, brushing the top sheet with butter.


8. Using a sharp knife, carefully slice the baklava into diamond or square shapes.



9. Bake the baklava in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.


10. While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining the sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.



11. Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over the top. Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.


12. Serve the baklava at room temperature, garnished with additional nuts if desired.
