  6. - 1-2 tablespoons of palm sugar or brown sugar

  7. - 2-3 tablespoons of lime juice

  8. - 2 tablespoons of roasted peanuts, crushed

  9. - 1-2 tablespoons of dried shrimp (optional)

  10. - 1-2 tablespoons of tamarind paste (optional)

  11. - Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish



Instructions:


1. Start by shredding the green papaya using a julienne peeler or a mandoline slicer. Place the shredded papaya in a large mixing bowl.



2. Add the minced garlic and Thai bird's eye chilies to the bowl with the shredded papaya. Use more or less chilies depending on your spice preference.



3. Add the halved cherry tomatoes to the bowl with the papaya, garlic, and chilies.


4. In a separate small bowl, mix together the fish sauce, palm sugar, and lime juice. Adjust the amounts of each ingredient to achieve the perfect balance of sweet, sour, and salty flavors.



5. Pour the fish sauce mixture over the shredded papaya and mix well to combine all the ingredients.


6. If desired, add the dried shrimp and tamarind paste to the salad for extra flavor. Mix well to incorporate these ingredients into the salad.



7. Taste the salad and adjust the seasoning as needed. Add more fish sauce, sugar, lime juice, or chilies to suit your taste preferences.



8. Sprinkle the crushed roasted peanuts over the top of the salad and garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.


9. Serve the Som Tum immediately as a refreshing side dish or as a light and healthy main course.
